Can't connect Sony M600i to PC Suite

The PC Suite would not connect to the phone although the machine could see a USB device. Can’t connect … it’s right there…. Aaarrrrggghhhh! Relax. This took me a long time to find out. USB connectivity has two modes that can be set with

Click on the small arrow icon in top left > Connections > USB. You will see a dropdown called USB functionality. Switch as required. (Also accessible from Main Menu > Tools > Control Panel > Connections > USB.

• Phone mode : To use PC Suite, you must have Usb in phone mode or PC Suite won’t see your phone. You need this setting to synchronize with Outlook for example. You can also use Explorer FileManager node to transfer files.

• File Transfer: To dump files onto your memory card like a pen drive, use this setting.

Also once the cable is connected, I don't think you can change this setting. So configure-Connect-Use.

I wish someone had blogged about this … I was near insanity when I couldn’t get my new phone to talk USB with my machine or sync contacts.. turned out to be another case of smart phones and dumb people.
